Climate Action Starts at Home: Introducing All Electric Alliance Canada
As extreme weather events intensify across Canada—from devastating wildfires to unprecedented floods—the urgency for climate adaptation has never been clearer. The recent impacts on BC wine production and the increasing number of days Canadians spend indoors due to wildfire smoke are just glimpses of our changing reality. Global climate change is here, now, and we all have to decide how we’re going to respond.
Our Journey to Action
We agree that coordinated global action is urgently required, and we know that “carbon footprint” is a term created by the fossil fuel industry to deflect responsibility for the crisis. But we also want to make the best choices for the environment we can in our own homes, and we want to empower others to do the same.
We’ve completed pre-apprenticeship training in residential and commercial electrical systems and pursued other training, learning and certification through various groups and learned from our own research. We’ve made changes to our own homes in pursuit of electrification and efficiency.
What we’ve discovered, though, is that taking advantage of the best technologies and methods available requires a surprising amount of knowledge and advocacy. Contractors are happy to rely on the conventional wisdom they’ve used for decades, and they only offer a limited set of solutions they’ve applied before. We’ve found they’ll often try to talk you out of making choices that prioritize long term energy efficiency and eliminate the burning of methane in your home.
Our Contribution: All Electric Alliance Canada
To address these realities, we will provide:
- Descriptions of our own journeys, choices, mistakes and experiences with technologies and contractors
- Comprehensive, easy to understand comparisons of different options for the main areas of home energy usage, like space heating and cooling, water heating, and cooking heat
- Space for Canadians to discuss their own energy usage problems, options and lessons
- A community for those who care about their energy usage and want to better understand the energy landscape
Whether you're a homeowner who's navigated electrification, a professional in the clean energy space, or simply passionate about climate solutions, we want to hear from you!
